Xiao Ping Zhang

Biography:

Early 2007, Dr. Xiao-Ping Zhang joined the University of Birmingham taking up the post of Reader (Professor) and Director of the University Institute for Energy Research and Policy after spending 7 years with the University of Warwick as lecturer and then associate professor. Dr. Zhang previously had industry experience as R&D engineer and manager for commercial SCADA/EMS/DMS products. He held a visiting position with UMIST, UK and a position of Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow at Dortmund University, Germany, which is a life-long honour.
Dr Zhang’s research activities include smart grid technologies, FACTS applications, integration of renewable generation into power grids, and electricity market modelling, etc sponsored by EPSRC, Industry, UK Government and European Commission.
He is a co-author of the book “Flexible AC Transmission Systems: Modelling and Control” by Springer and the chief editor of the book on Electricity Market Modeling by IEEE Press to appear in 2008. He has some 100 conference and journal publications. During past 3 years, He has given 12 invited presentations for the International Conference panel sessions and workshops on power systems where majority of these are IEEE conferences.
He is on the editorial board of Journal of Electric Power Components and Systems (Formerly Electrical Machines and Power Systems, an SCI journal). He is Founder and Co-Editor-In-Chief of “Multidiscipline Modeling in Materials and Structures” (An International Journal) from January 2005. He has been an Executive Member of Working Group on Network Assets, European Commission Technology Platform for Smart Grids. He has been a Member of Peer Review College of the Engineering and Physics Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), UK
