Title: Recent Advances in the Deep Learning Approach in Control and Mobile Robotics
Abstract:
Designing controllers for tasks with complex nonlinear dynamics is extremely challenging, time-consuming, and in many cases, infeasible. This difficulty is intensified in tasks such as mobile robotics tool handling, in which dynamics might vary both with environmental properties, such as material and tool class, and with time while acting. This plenary speech aims at drawing attention to recent deep learning methods applications in control systems as well as to equivalent Reinforcement learning (RL) approaches offering efficient ways to control nonlinear stochastic systems with partly or even fully unknown dynamics. Recent advances in areas such as deep learning and adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) have led to significant developments in applications from robotics, automotive systems, smart grids, game playing, traffic control, etc. This talk will attempt to provide a comprehensive outline and the principal algorithms of novel contributions at the cutting edge of deep learning and RL as well as ADP for control systems, addressing open issues such as performance guarantees, computational complexity, large-scale systems, multiagent or partially observable problems, etc. We will try particularly to pay attention to the, so far largely unidentified, interfaces between artificial/computational intelligence and control-theoretic approaches to deep learning, RL and ADP technologies and suggest a framework and ways for designing such hybrid control systems with applications especially to mobile robotics.
