Dr. Wenxian Yang

Dr. Wenxian Yang is currently a lecturer in offshore renewable energy served for the School of Marine Science and technology of Newcastle University, United Kingdom. Before he joined Newcastle University in 2013, he worked for the UK Offshore Renewable Energy CATAPULT Centre (ORE-CATAPULT) as a technology specialist in wind power. Being expertise in offshore renewable energy, marine and offshore engineering, and asset management, he has substantial teaching and research experience in designing and developing various concepts of offshore platforms and the operation and maintenance of offshore wind turbines. Currently, his research is focused on designing and developing cost-effective and motion-stable floating foundation dedicated to offshore floating wind turbines and associated condition monitoring and reliability analysis. To date, his research has attracted high interest from many European companies like ORE-CATAPULT, ALSTOM and TERNA Energy. Dr Yang has held 3 USA patents and published over 60 peer-reviewed papers on top journals. He is now also the board member of two journals and the fund assessor of Portugal FCT funding Scheme and China National Natural Science Foundation. In recent years, Dr Yang has led and participated in a number of national and international research projects in the field of marine and offshore renewable energy (e.g. TSB, RGF, Royal Academy of Engineering, European FP7, etc.).
