Dr. Zhao Ma is National Distinguished Expert of “1000 Elite Program”, he has been working as Chief Expert – Smart Power Distribution Networks for China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI) since January 2014. His main work areas include: smart distribution network planning and asset management; active distribution systems; intelligent transmission and distribution equipment in particular for design, development; technical consulting; MVDC and LVDC; Energy Internet etc. 
Dr. Zhao Ma has gained over 33 years’ working experience, extensive rich theoretical knowledge and practical experience that from academy, manufacturer, utility and consultant in field of power transmission and distribution. He had been a Principle Consultant and Technical Authority at international consulting company ATKINS; Senior Technical Specialist at E.ON UK Central Networks; Senior Engineer at GEC ALSTOM transmission switchgear LTD. He has presided and participated over of dozens of R&D projects on important equipment, low-carbon engineering and intelligent power distribution demonstration projects. Provided consultancy service for a number of international famous companies, he has extensive experience in international professional organization e.g. IEC, CIGRE and IET, as member of BSI, the IEC 17A & 17C and member of CIGRE committee; he has chaired a number of international conferences and/or act as work Technical Program Committee members. He won THREE TIMES ministerial-level Science and Technology Progress Award, TWICE IEE Professional Continuing Progress Award. 
Dr. Zhao Ma is a British Chartered Electrical Engineers (CEng), the Fellow (FIET) of International Engineering and Technology. Current CIGRE SC6 (distribution system and distributed generation) committee China, CIGRE China and the Asia Pacific region SC6 chairman; Visiting Professor of IEE CAS (Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Science), Adjunct Professor of Xi'an Jiao tong University.
