Prof. Paniveni U. Shankar Indian Institute of Astrophysics Koramangala Bangalore, India
Biography: Dr.Paniveni has a Ph.D in Astrophysics from Mangalore University with the research work carried out at Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore between 2001 and 2005. She has a teaching experience of 33 years at the Post-graduate level , graduate level and undergraduate level and 15 Years of Research Experience. Her thesis entitled ‘Convective flows on the solar atmosphere’ is published as a printed book with the title ‘Dynamics of Solar Supergranulation’ by LAP publishers, Germany in November 2010. Dr.Paniveni held positions such as Professor, Head of the Department and In-charge Principal of reputed colleges before superannuation in October 2017 from her illustrious career. Dr.Paniveni is guiding three students for Ph.D Following are the honors and distinctions she has received: • She is a recipient of National Merit Scholarship throughout academic career. She is also a 1st rank holder in Solid State Physics branch in M.Sc. • She is selected as ‘Research Associate of Inter- University centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) Pune, India’ from 1st Aug 2007 till date. • Her name is entered into the 10th Edition of ‘Who’s Who of International and Business Women’ for achievements in Science and Music, published by the ‘American Biographical Society’, America. • She is a recipient of Indragandhi Sadbhavana Gold medal award for ‘Research and Education’ in view of outstanding contribution and service to the Nation instituted by ‘Global Economic Progress and Research Association’. • Dr.Paniveni has published about 20 research papers in the international journals of high impact factor. • She has attended several international conferences both in India and abroad wherein she has given either oral or poster presentations or chaired sessions. • Dr.Paniveni had an invitation from International Occultation and Timing Association- Middle East (IOTA-ME) Section to be a highlight speaker for opening ceremony of the 4th International Occultation and Eclipse Conference which was kindly supported by Iranian Space Agency (ISA), IAU OAD and IOTA held in Tehran, Iran on 24 October, 2013. • Dr.Paniveni is a life member of Indian Physics Association and a life member of Indian Association of Physics Teachers. • Dr. Paniveni has also been proficient in carnatic music with AIR gradation. She has sung for TV a few times. She has given a number of vocal concerts on well known platforms and received many accolades and appreciation certificates. • She was recently interviewed by a local TV channel for her contributions to Research, Teaching and Music. • She was a judge of a TV music show in 2008.
