Biography
Prof. Xin-Yuan Liu Chinese Academy of Sciences, China
Biography: Professor Xin-Yuan Liu graduated from NanKai University, worked in the Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences since 1957 till date. From 1983 to 1984, he went to USA and worked as visiting scientist in the Roche Institute of Mol. Biol. He was elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1991, foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 1992 and member of the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in 2001. He is a pioneer for interferon study in China. He gave outstanding contribution to the National natural science’s first class award, the total synthesis of yeast Ala tRNA. The engineering expression of IFN-γ reached 70% of the total bacterial protein and gets a national outstanding award. From basic studies to clinical trial of IFNα-2b and IL-2, he got 2 times national awards. Therefore, he was the Chairman of Annual Meeting of International of Interferon and Cytokine Research held in 2005 at Shanghai. By inserting an antitumor gene into an oncolytic virus (OV-gene), he innovate the idea of Cancer Targeting Gene-Viro-Therapy (CTGVT). However, the antitumor effect of CTGVT (OV-gene) is not 1+1=2, but magically increased to nearly hundred folds. By additiona second gene into CTGVT to form the CTGVT-DG, all the xenograft tumor can be essentially completely eliminated without recurrence. Therefore, the CTGVT and CTGVT-DG can be taken as revolution of both cancer gene therapy and caner oncolytic virotherapy. He has published more than 400 papers in famous journals which was compiled in 16 volumes of his collected papers and got more than 40 awards and honors, including the national outstanding award and the famous Hong Kong HLHL prize.
