Dr. Mariana Ionita was educated at top level universities (Politecnico di Milano, Technical University of Denmark, Universita degli Studi di Milano or University of Pisa) and gained her PhD in Chemistry in 2008 and in Bioengineering in 2008. Currently she is carrying out very active research and teaching activities at Faculty of Medical Engineering dedicated to tissue engineering and soft implants engineering. In the framework of research activities she started a pioneering work (in Romania) and one of the few worldwide in the field of multiscale computer-aided molecular modeling and actual design complemented with computer-assisted evaluation for the understanding and knowledge-based design of polymer based biomaterials. She conducted complex research focused on the actual design of polymer/ graphene based biomaterials envisaged for bone regeneration or films and membranes foreseen for drug delivery systems or haemodialysis, as well as design and development of potency assay for measuring osteogenic potential of stem cell. She published 52 peer reviewed papers (ISI), coordinate 6 scientific grants/project and participate as PI in more than 10 national and international grants (FP6-NMP3-CT-2005-013644, FP6-MEST-CT-2004-504465 ), several scientific awards, organized different international events and been invited to and chair different international conference, appointed board member of conferences, referee for many ISI journals, member of European Society for Composite Materials and Romanian society of Biomaterials and board member of Composite Part B Engineering journal.
