Biography: 
Dr. Gilbert C. Sigua is a Research Soil Scientist at the USDA-ARS Coastal Plains Soil, Water, and Plant Research Center in Florence, SC. He received his B.S. degree from Central Luzon State University, Philippines, his M.S. degree from University of Arkansas, and Ph.D. degree from Louisiana State University. His research program focuses on both the short-term and long-term solutions to enhancing agricultural and environmental sustainability and improving water and nutrient management in humid region. His professional activities have resulted in over 160 technical publications. Gilbert is a nationally and internationally recognized expert and authority in his field because of his work on agronomic, soil quality, water quality and environmental management research as evidenced by his various international projects in Brazil, Australia, Philippines, Japan and Cambodia. He served on various committees for the Agronomy Society of America and Soil Science Society of America. He serves as a member of the Editorial Board for international journals and on invited Technical Advisory Committees for the US-Environmental Protection Agency (US-EPA) and USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS). Dr. Sigua’s scholarly achievements, expertise and professional status have been widely recognized through numerous national and international honors and awards. As a testimony to this, he was recently awarded major fellowship awards, to wit: a) Fellow of American Society of Agronomy; b) William F. Fulbright Fellow; c) Japan Society for Promotion of Science Fellow; d) “Balik Scientist” Fellow; and e) Fellow of Soil Science Society of America. He holds adjunct faculty position at the University of Florida, North Carolina A&T State University and Central Luzon State University.
