Maegala is currently attached with the Institute of Bio−IT Selangor, Universiti Selangor. She has a broad educational training in Chemistry and Biotechnology. She has a huge passion for teaching with a genuine interest in students' cognitive and social growth. She is also a dedicated and motivated researcher having trained in proteomics at the Imperial College, London. Her research focus is on Environmental Biotechnology and Green Chemistry emphasizing on the role of Rhodococcus in bioremediation. Through this research, she has published 14 papers in high impact and peer reviewed journals and 20 proceedings. Her oral presentation in the International Conference in Food Engineering and Biotechnology (ICFEB 2011) was selected to be published as full journal paper in International Journal of Bioscience Biochemistry and Bioinfomatics, Singapore. Based on these contributions, Nova Publisher (USA) invited her to write a chapter in a book entitled ‘Biodegradation: Properties, Analysis and Performance’. In addition, she has reviewed 29 papers for potential publication in international journal and conference. She is also actively engaged in organizing international conferences and was the secretary and the chief editor of International Conference on Life Sciences Revolution (ICLSR) 2015 and 2016. She was solely responsible to establish a collaboration between a peer reviewed international journal which published 15 selected proceedings from the conferences as full papers. Following this, she has been awarded the Excellent Researcher Award by Universiti Selangor in 2017. Maegala is also an active member of the secretariat of Women in Science group and National STEM Movement. She is involved in promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to secondary school students and prospective teachers. In addition, she is a self−driven leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who also enjoys effectively contributing to the community as adviser to programs such as feed the homeless and teaching English to students of SRJK (Tamil) Simpang Lima.
