Biography: 
Langenbach has degrees from Harvard and the Institute of Advanced Architectural Studies in York, UK. For 10 years, he served as Senior Analyst for the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and before that, he was Assistant Professor of Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley. He has also served as visiting professor at the University of Brescia in Italy. In 1981, he received an Indo-American Exchange Fellowship to India, and since then has done reconnaissances for UNESCO after the 2001 Gujarat Earthquake in India, the 2003 Bam Earthquake in Iran, the 2005 Kashmir Earthquake in India and Pakistan, and the 2010 Indus Valley Floods in Pakistan. In 2002, he received a Rome Prize Fellowship at the American Academy in Rome for his work. In 2006 he served as a consultant for the Turqoise Mountain Foundation in Kabul, Afghanistan. He is author and photographer for the 2009 UNESCO book Don’t Tear It Down! Preserving the Earthquake Resistant Vernacular Architecture of Kashmir(www.traditional-is-modern.net). In 2016, he appeared on USA Public television in the NOVA Science documentary Himalayan Megaquake for his work in Nepal after the 2015 earthquakes. Over the past 15 years, he as given over 45 keynote addresses and invited lectures in many countries around the world, seven of which have been in India.
