Biography: 
Dr. Loretta ELDER, DNP, RN, CNE, Professor of Nursing, currently teaches in an Associate Degree Nursing Program at Madisonville Community College. Dr. Elder started her nursing career in 1978 as a Licensed Practical Nurse and later became a Registered Nurse in 1987. She began her work as a Registered Nurse on a medical-surgical unit in a 401-bed acute care hospital. Later, she began work in ambulatory surgical nursing and served as the manager of the the hospital based ambulatory surgery center for approximately 13 years. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 1998. She began working in nursing education in 2002, teaching at Madisonville Community College in the Associate Degree Nursing Program. She received her Master of Science Degree in Nursing Education in 2006, and in 2016 received her Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree in Organizational Leadership. In 2015, Dr. Elder received the prestigious ACORN award from the Council for Post-Secondary Education. Dr. Elder’s capstone project for her DNP Program was titled: Simulation in Assisting Nurses to Better Recognize Early Signs of Clinical Deterioration in a Patient. In 2017, she published her work in the Journal for Nurses in Professional Development. Dr. Elder is involved in simulation with the Interprofessional Simulation Hospital at Baptist Health. Dr. Elder has presented at many conferences including KNA, OADN, Lindsey Wilson College of Nursing, Eastern Kentucky University, and Nuts & Bolts for Nurse Educators. Dr. Elder serves the nursing profession as a member in the National League for Nurses, American Nurses Association, Kentucky Nurses Association, Organization for Associate Degree Nurses, and Society for Simulation in Healthcare. She serves in elected positions for KNA and OADN. She continues involvement in local organizations such as the Jingle Jog 5K/Walk/Run for the Arthritis Foundation and a Right to Read program for elementary students.
