Title: Floating Solar PV Plants: Present status and future prospects
Abstract:
Most of the energyis obtained from oil, coal, and natural gas, which are limited throughout the world. Recently, high crude oil price, climate change, oil depletion, etc. are the main reason to get attention to non-fossil energy including renewable energy in the world. Particularly, floating PV power station with high-efficiency solar cell modules receives a lot of attention recently. Floating PV system is installed on the water such as an artificial lake, reservoir, river for the purposes of zero energy town and/or large scale of PV station.Floatovoltaics is the hub of the energy‐water nexus saving productive land and conserving valuable fresh water. It is therefore possible to avoid not only the overheating of cells and water evaporation from water bodies in the driest areas, but also the installation of photovoltaic systems on land, thus reserving land use for agriculture or building. There are electrical gains from cooling effect by water and reflection of water surface. Floating PV system is installed on the water, which means grounding method to the frame of the solar cell and electrical boxes such as connector band and distribution panel board should be applied in a different way from grounding method of PV system on land. The effects of weather conditions such as the wind, water flow and floating matters on the floating photovoltaic generation system are important for the development of economically feasible development structure. This paper explains the various innovative designs, market potential and advancement in the floating PV power design. are reviewed and analyzed.
