| Title: Endophytic Microbes: An untapped source of Pharmacological Bioactive Potent Moieties | |
| Abstract:
Endophytic microbes have received huge attention of scientific community due to their ability to produce bioactive secondary metabolites. These potent moieties have great significance in development processes and drug discovery. The objective of our talk was to evaluate the biological potential of endophytic bacterial extracts in normal and induced salt stress culture and analyzed some of their chemical constituents through UV-Vis spectroscopy and high performance liquid chromatography. Bacterial metabolites were extracted with ethyl acetate and subjected for their biological potential through different biological assays. The results of biological evaluation based on the different assays revealed that extracts of endophytic bacteria possess significant antioxidant and antimicrobial potential with least toxicity towards human RBCs. These compounds also exhibited clot lysis potential and showed protection of CT-DNA from H2O2 induced damage. The samples were also test on mutant strains Salmonella typhi TA98 and 100 and it was concluded that extracted compounds showed non-mutagenic profile against the tested strains. UV-Vis profiling of ethyl acetate extract suggest the presence of phenolic compounds in extracts, which was confirmed by HPLC. Our study suggest that bacterial endophytic are also potential source of antioxidant, antimicrobial compounds; and quantity of these compounds may be increased by varying culture conditions.

| Biography:
Dr. Muhammad Shahid is currently working as Associate Professor, in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan. He is leading a research group of Medicinal Biochemistry. His research group composed of more than 30 student including 7 PhD. He supervised a good number of M. Sc. and M. Phil including 8 PhD to his credit. He is also incharge of Bioassay section, a commercial activity of his research group. Dr. Shahid main areas of interest are bioactive compounds from diverse nature and source and their biological potential. About 150 reputed and indexed publications are to his credit with impact factor 200. He also wrote 7 book chapters in different books and many popular articles. Different national and international awarded including GA award, Young Investigator Award” from HUPO and many time Research Productivity Award from Pakistan Council for Science and Technology, Pakistan are part of his CV. He has also won different research projects as PI and Co-PI. He presented his research work at national and international event as invited speaker and resource person in different workshops. He also involved in arranging different scientific events at national level as organizer.
