Biography: 
Dr Xuewen Shu received his Ph.D. degree in optoelectronics from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China, in 2000. From 2000 to 2001, he was a Visiting Research Fellow with the Photonics Research Group at Aston University, Birmingham, UK. Then, he spent two years with Indigo Photonics Ltd., UK, as a Photonics Development Engineer and a Senior Engineer from 2001 to 2003. From 2003 to 2013, worked as a Senior Research Fellow with the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies at Aston University, UK. In 2013, he joined Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology as a full-professor, under the support of "Thousand Youth Talents" program from Chinese government. He has published over 150 papers in major international journals and conferences and also holds several European and U.S. patents. His research interests include fiber gratings, optical fiber communications, fiber lasers and optical sensors.
