Vamsi Krishna Balla

Biography:

Dr. Vamsi Krishna Balla graduated in 2005 with Ph. D. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from IIT Madras (India). Currently he is working as Senior Principal Scientist at Bioceramics and Coating Division of Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute, Kolkata, India. Dr. Balla'scurrent research concentrates on application of solid freeform technologies towards various long standing challenges in metal and ceramic implants to increase their in vivo life time. Specific research areas include development of engineered porous metals/ceramics, compositionally / structurally graded coatings, laser processing alloys and composites for biomedical and structural applications. Dr. Balla received Young Scientist award from Punjab Academy of Sciences, India in 2002. He is the recipient of Sudarshan Bhatt Memorial Award for his masters (1998) and Ph.D research (2005) at IIT Madras, India. He is a reviewer for more than 20 international scientific journals/funding agencies and rated as excellent reviewer (top 20) for Metallurgical & Materials Transactions A (2007). He also received best technical paper awards from ARCI (2004) and AWS (2002). Dr. Balla published over 70 peer reviewed journal articles. His work has been cited over 950 times and his current ‘h’ index is 19.
