Alok Srivastava is a Physical Chemist with specialization in Nuclear Chemistry. He is presently working as Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh. He also holds a position of Adjunct Professor in the Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of Panjab University. He did his B.Sc (Hons) and M.Sc from Institute of Science, Mumbai with Distinction and later doctorate from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in the field of Nuclear Fission. The findings of his doctoral research work on low energy nuclear fission was adjudged as the best research work in the International Conference on Artificial Radioactivity organized in 1985 in Pune, India.

He worked as a Humboldt Fellow with Prof. H.O.Denschlag in the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry, University of Mainz, Germany from 1986-88 in the laboratory of Prof. F. Strassmann the co-discoverer of Nuclear Fission. He then became Consultant to European Community and worked in the Institute for Reference Materials previously known as Central Bureau for Nuclear Measurements in Geel, Belgium in the period 1989-90. 

He moved to USA to work with Prof. W.D.Loveland and the Nobel Laureate Prof. G.T.Seaborg in the period 1991-93 as Visiting Faculty at Oregon State University, Corvallis and University of California, Berkeley. 

After his return from USA he has worked as a teaching faculty in North Eastern Hill University, Allahabad University and Panjab University

He was invited to work as DAAD Professor of Nuclear Chemistry in Aachen University of Applied Sciences, Juelich, Germany in the period 2002-04 to establish an International  Postgraduate Program on Peaceful Applications of Nuclear Science and continues to be a Visiting Professor there till date. 

Prof. Srivastava is working in the area of Nano Science, Material Science and Environmental and Geo Science besides Radiation Biology and Nuclear Reactions.  He has published around 75 papers in International Journals and has presented around 140 papers in different National and International Conferences. 

He has edited a book BIO-NANO-GEO SCIENCE: THE FUTURE CHALLENGE published by Ane Books, New Delhi. 

He has been Visiting Scientist/Guest Lecturer in different laboratories/academic institutions in Germany, France, Japan, Spain, Brazil, Czech Republic, Hungary, Nepal, Bangladesh and USA. He has been Consultant to DRDO and ITBP besides being associated with UGC, CSIR, NET, DAAD, AvH, BRNS, DRDO and ITBP in different capacities and has been referee of manuscripts published in Journals from Elsevier, National Academy of Sciences besides Taylor and Francis.

He has been involved as a resource person of National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad in its program on Popularization of Science and is involved in the social activities of a Non Governmental Organization known as Institute of Applied Sciences located in Allahabad. He was Secretary of the Humboldt Academy of Chandigarh as well as the Vice President of Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists and Allied Scientists.
