Thermoelectric properties of a molecular wire
The thermoelectric properties of biphenyl molecule coupled to source and drain electrodes are thoroughly investigated within a tight-binding framework based on Green’s function formalism. We calculate the thermopower (or the Seebeck coefficient) and the dimensionless figure of merit as functions of twisting angle between two phenyl rings, molecule-to-electrode coupling, temperature, and interface geometry. We find a large variation of the Seebeck coefficient as well as figure of merit and our results persist over a wide range of physical parameters which demands possible experimental verification of our analysis.
Santanu K. Maiti is an Assistant Professor of Physics at Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, India. He has received his Master's degree in Physics from the University of Calcutta, India, and then he joined to Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), India, for his doctoral work. His research interests mainly focus on Quantum Transport in Meso-scale and Nano-scale Systems. He has published several papers in peer-reviewed International Journals, out of which more than sixty five papers he has published independently. He has also published many Reviews, co-edited a Book in Springer Series and contributed a chapter to a Book. He has also been working as Associate Editor, Section Editor as well as Editorial Board Member in several International Journals over the past many years.
