Biography:
Daniel C. Boice is the President and Principal Scientist of Scientific Studies and Consulting in San Antonio, Texas (USA). He is a research astronomer specializing in computational astrophysics for the past 3 decades. His career started at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (Theoretical Division) and he spent 26 years as a Principal Scientist at Southwest Research Institute (San Antonio, Texas, USA). Through a joint appointment, he was an Associate Professor in the Physics/Astronomy Department at the University of Texas at San Antonio for 20 years. Recently, he spent one year as a visiting Professor at the Institute of Astronomy (IAG) at the University of São Paulo (Brazil). Dr. Boice holds MS and PhD degrees in Astronomy from New Mexico State University (USA). He has published more than 300 papers in journals, books and conference proceedings, including more than 70 papers in peer-reviewed journals indexed in the Web of Science – Journal Citation Reports. He has participated in the scientific committees of several international conferences and associations and serves as a reviewer in a wide range of international journals and grant proposals. Currently, his major research interests are in planetary science (especially comets) but he has worked on diverse topics, including laser propagation in diverse environments and being the co-discoverer of the urban heat island of San Antonio, TX. Dr. Boice continues to have a strong commitment to education, public outreach, and international scientific collaboration.
