Biography:

Dr. Radu Ionescu is 'Rom¨®n y Cajal' Senior Researcher in the group of Microsystems and Nanotechnology for Chemical Analysis (MINOS), at the Department of Electronics, Electrical and Automatic Engineering, Rovira i Virgili University, Tarragona, Spain. He received his degree in Electrical Power Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, Romania, in 1998, and his Ph.D. degree in Electronics Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Barcelona, Spain, in 2003. Previously, Dr. Radu Ionescu was postdoctoral researcher at Rovira i Virgili University, Tarragona, Spain, experienced researcher (FP6 Marie Curie Transfer of Knowledge Actions) at Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria, Italy, and EC Senior Researcher at the Technion ¨C Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel. Dr. Radu Ionescu's research focuses on diseases diagnosis through volatile samples analysis. Dr. Ionescu is the Coordinator of the EU funded H2020-MSCA-RISE-2014 project "Development of a non-invasive breath test for early diagnosis of tropical diseases" ¨C TROPSENSE (www.tropsense.eu). He is the PI of the research project ¡°Detection via volatile organic compounds of tuberculosis, brucellosis and other disease in wild and domestic swine¡± funded by the United States Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). In 2015, Dr. Ionescu organised the Symposium "Approaches and Nanotechnologies for Volatolomics" (www.volasym.com).
