Biography:
Vladimir Gudkov is a Full Professor at the Ural Federal University, Ekaterinburg, Russia (the Departments of (i) Experimental Physics and (ii) Culture and Design). Previously, he was a Principal Investigator at the Miheev Institute of Metal Physics, Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and a Full Professor at the Russian State Vocational University. He holds a Master degree from the Ural Federal University (1975), a Candidate (PhD) degree (1982) and Doctor of Science degree (Condensed Matter Physics, 1993) from Miheev Institute of Metal Physics, Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 2002 he was graduated from the New York Institute of Photography. He has about 200 publications in journals and conference proceedings, among them more than 20 papers in journals indexed in Web of Science and more than 50 indexed in Scopus, such as Physical Review B, Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, Journal of Applied Physics, Philosophical Magazine, Philosophical Magazine Letters, Physica Status Solidi B – Basic Solid State Physics, Solid State Communications, Physica B – Condensed Matter, Low Temperature Physics, Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics Letters, Technical Physics Letters, Ultrasonics, etc. Besides, he has one book written in co-authorship with Prof. J.D.Gavenda, University of Texas at Austin, and published in 2000 in Springer-Verlag NY, and chapters in two collective monographs (Springer, Heidelberg 2009 and 2011, the last written in co-authorship with Prof.I.B.Bersuker, University of Texas at Austin). He was Guest Professor at the University of Texas at Austin (1998). He gave lectures on physics, mathematics, and photography. His photos were published or presented at photo salons in Russia, Argentina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Greece, Egypt, Finland, Serbia, and USA. As Principal Investigator he was awarded grants for physics research from Soros Foundation, NATO Program for Scientific Collaboration with Russia, Russian Foundation for Basic Research. In 1995 – 2001 he was a member of the American Physical Society, from 2005 he is a member of the Russian Acoustical Society. A member of International Freelance Photographers Organization. Current interests are in the field of ultrasonic investigation of point defects in crystals at low temperatures and in magnetic fields.
