Title:
Advances in the development of high performance p-type transparent conducting materials: a study of copper iodide
Abstract:
Over the last decade transparent conducting materials (TCMs) had a dramatic increase in interest in the field of optoelectronics. Most attention has been paid to n-type wide bandgap semiconductors including In2O3, SnO2, ZnO, TiO2 and their doped versions. However, the lack of suitable p-type TCMs has been the main obstacle in front of either passivate or active electronic applications. Copper iodide in the zincblende ground-state phase (γ-CuI) has p-type conductivity with a high Hall mobility (>40 cm2V-1s-1 in bulk), a wide band gap (3.1 eV) with a direct band structure, and a large exciton binding energy (62 meV). These advantageous properties make it a promising p-type TCM. In this talk, room-temperature synthesis and doping techniques, superior TCM performances and highly rectifying diodes of CuI will be presented, which demonstrate the great potential of CuI in optoelectronic applications.

Biography:
Dr. Chang Yang received his B.Sc. degree from Fudan University (2005) and his Ph.D. degree from Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (2010). As a postdoc, he joined the Solid State Chemistry Laboratory at the University of Tokyo (2010 - 2014), and the Semiconductor Physics Group at Universität Leipzig (2014 - now). His research focus on the wide bandgap semiconductors for optoelectronics and energy harvesting. His recent work involves p-type transparent conductor CuI and transparent thin film devices.
