Dr. Fong is an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Human Performance at the University of Hong Kong. She previously worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health and Physical Education at the Hong Kong Institute of Education and was a Clinical Associate (Physiotherapy) in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She is a researcher, an experienced physiotherapist and a martial art coach who has investigated the use of martial therapy (e.g., Tai Chi, Qigong, VingTsun and Taekwondo) in rehabilitation extensively. Dr. Fong and her research team have pioneered research on the potential effects of Qigong training in managing chronic symptoms, specifically those of community-dwelling breast cancer and nasopharyngeal cancer survivors. Her current research at the University of Hong Kong includes complementary and alternative medicine, cancer rehabilitation, martial-art exercises as well as pediatric physiotherapy.
Dr. Fong has over 30 publications in peer-review journals, including Integrative Cancer Therapies, Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, BioMed Research International, Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Research in Developmental Disabilities, and Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport. She haspublished 2 book chapters, edited 1 book and delivered over 30 keynote/conference presentations. In addition, she has secured 8 research grants and received 4 research awards. Dr.Fong serves on the editorial board of several international journals. She is the academic editor of Medicine and the section associate editor of BMC Sports Science, Medicine & Rehabilitation. She is also a specialist (medicine and health sciences) at the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic & Vocational Qualifications and was the public relations manager of the Hong Kong Physiotherapy Association.Regarding teaching experience, Dr. Fong has been teaching at different tertiary institutions for over 7 years and has received teaching award from theHong Kong Professional Teachers’ Union.
