  • Biography:
    Dr. Allen Lewis has had a diverse 31-year career as a health and rehabilitation professional.  He has worked 15 years as a clinician and administrator of public rehabilitation and health services in the state of Virginia of the USA.  He is an experienced academic.  He has 16 years of experience as an academic in the USA.  He has taught at three universities in the USA (Virginia Commonwealth University, Gallaudet University, and the University of Pittsburgh).  Dr. Lewis has been a tenured associated professor at two institutions in the USA.  He is currently associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh.  
    Dr. Lewis’ research focuses on the influence of culture on the experience of being disabled and disability disparities.  He is also interested in evaluating the effectiveness of disability and rehabilitation services.  Dr. Lewis has an established record of scholarship that includes 39 peer reviewed publications, having been PI on $3+ million dollars in federal grants in the USA, four conference proceedings, one published abstract, one monograph, four encyclopedia entries, seven book chapters, and one book in press.  Dr. Lewis has over 120 refereed or invited presentations nationally and internationally.  He also has an established record of service to the profession of rehabilitation counseling.  He is a member of the National Rehabilitation Counselors Association, the National Rehabilitation Association, and the Pennsylvania Rehabilitation Association all in the USA.  He is a nationally certified rehabilitation counselor in the USA.  Dr. Lewis currently serves on two editorial boards for prominent rehabilitation journals (one in the USA and one international) and is the current editor of the Journal of Applied Rehabilitation Counseling in the USA.
