Vibration Characteristics Analysis of Tapered Circular Plate

In modern era of engineering and technology, plates had become integral parts in most of the mechanical structures and their vibration analysis is required for safe design. Vibration of plates depends upon its shape, thickness, nature of material, boundary conditions, surroundings (temperature) etc. Here I will discuss a thermal-thickness coupling problem of a tapered circular plate under some considerations. I can presume that listeners will have at least an elementary understanding of plate theory. I will show you that how thickness, temperature and other factors affect the vibration of plate directly.

In this model, I will discuss the vibration of a Circular Plate under thermal condition. Thickness of the circular plate will be assumed to vary in two directions i.e. radial and angular directions. Boundary of the plate will be considered as Clamped. In order to calculate natural frequencies for first few modes of vibration at different values of plate’s parameters, I will use Rayleigh Ritz technique. All numeric results of frequency will be provided in tabular form and also, graphs will definitely help you for determining intermediate values of frequencies.


Dr. Anupam Khanna, an eminent faculty of Mathematics, is presently working as Head, Department of Mathematics, DAV College-Sadhaura, Yamuna Nagar, Haryana, INDIA since August, 2014. He worked as Associate Professor in M. M. University-Mullana, Haryana, INDIA from Feb, 2011 to August, 2014. He was also associated with Shobhit Inst. of Engg. & Tech., Saharanpur, U.P., INDIA as an Assistant Professor from 2006 to 2011. He completed his Master of Science in Mathematics (Univ. Topper, Gold Medalist) in 2002. He received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from C.C.S. University (INDIA) in 2006 on Vibration of visco-elastic rectangular plates. His research areas are Acoustics & Vibration and Applied Mathematics. He had Guided Two Ph.D. Thesis and Three M. Phil. Dissertations. He is also author of Three Research Books and One Text Book published by an International publisher. His research papers are published in more than 40 International/National Journals Repute i.e. Journal of Sound & Vibration, Shock & Vibration, Journal of Vibroengineering etc. He participated in more than 30 International or National conferences. He is the reviewer of many International Journals Repute. Also, he is the member of Editorial Board of more than 20 International Journals.
