On-Chip Optical Data Processing on a Silicon Platform
In this talk, we review our recent research progress in on-chip optical data processing on a silicon platform. By exploiting the linear and nonlinear effects in the designed and fabricated silicon nanophotonic devices, we demonstate grooming on-chip optical data processing functions such as signaling, demultilexing, wavelength conversion, data exchange, optical computing, etc.
Jian Wang received the Ph.D. degree in physical electronics from the Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China, in 2008. He worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the optical communications laboratory in the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering of the Viterbi School of Engineering, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California, USA, from 2009 to 2011. He is currently a professor at the Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China. He is the Assistant Director of Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics. He is also a Chutian Scholar Distinguished Professor in Hubei Province. Jian Wang has received the following representative honors/awards: National Top Young Talents of China (2015), The First Prize of Natural Science Award of Ministry of Education of China (1st co-author) (2015), The First Prize of Hubei Natural Science (4th co-author) (2013), Award for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Talent in Hubei Province (2013), Hubei Youth Science and Technology Award (Oct, 2013), National Science Foundation for Excellent Young Scholars (2012), New Century Excellent Talents in University of Ministry of Education of China (2011), National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award nomination (2010), The Second Prize of Natural Science Award of Ministry of Education of China (2nd co-author) (2010). Jian Wang’s professional activities have included: Member of IEEE, OSA, SPIE and COS; OSA Technical Group Executive Committee member in Optoelectronics; Editorial Board of Frontiers of Optoelectronics and Chinese Journal of Materials Science; Guest Editor of two special issues in Frontiers of Optoelectronics; Local Organizing Committee Chair of OEDI and POEM (OSA Topical Meeting); Technical Program Committee Chairs of ACP2016; Subcommittee Co-Chair of ICOCN2014 and ICOCN2015; Organizers/Chairs of OAM/SDM workshops in POEM2014, ACP2014 and ACP2015; Session Chair of ICAIT, POEM, ICOCN, META, Photonics Asia and ACP; Technical Program Committee Member of ACP, ICAIT, ICOCN, ICCC, ICCN, LQCC, SOPO, WOCC, Photonics Asia, Chincom, WCSN, Photonics West, LOC and ICNISC; Frequent reviewers for more than 20 journals such as Scientific Report, Optics Letters, Optics Express, Optica, Applied Optics, Optical Materials Express, Journal of the Optical Society of America B, Journal of Lightwave Technology, IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics, etc. Jian Wang has devoted his research efforts to innovations in photonic integrated devices and frontier technologies for high-speed optical communications and optical data processing. Jian Wang has more than 250 publications in total, including 3 book chapters, 2 special issues, 2 review articles, 5 invited papers, 42 tutorial/keynote/invited talks (invited talk at OFC2014, tutorial talk at OFC2016), 8 postdeadline papers, and more than 100 journal papers published on Science (1), Nature Photonics (1), Scientific Reports (14), Optics Express (30), Optics Letters (34), etc.
